Auf vielen Reisen, die Prof. Jaroslav Poncar im Laufe mehrerer Jahrzehnte durch den gesamten Himalaya unternahm, sind unzählige Aufnahmen entstanden. Dabei war es Poncar immer auch wichtig, ein möglichst authentisches Bild der Kultur und des Lebens in der höchsten Bergregion der Erde zu vermitteln. Hierfür schloss er sich zum Beispiel für mehrere Wochen tibetischen Nomaden an. In Sachen Größe setzt der Bildband Maßstäbe; aufgeschlagen misst er annähernd einen Meter und zeigt so die Weite und Vielfalt der einmaligen Landschaft und deren Bewohner.

The photographs of Tibet by the Asia specialist Jaroslav Poncar have today become classics. Following the illustrated volumes in the XXL format and the Bibliothek, we now present the unique panorama photographs of the roof of the world in this format. Poncar toured the Himalayan region from end to end in the course of several journeys to record the breathtaking landscapes and the life of the nomads and inhabitants of the towns.
