Slim Aarons: Once Upon a Time Slim Aarons: Once Upon a Time
Автор: Жанр: Abrams Издательство: Abrams Год: 2012 Страниц: 240 Дата загрузки: 23 декабря 2014
From the end of World War II through the 1980s, Aarons photographed the rich and famous, the beautiful and the celebrated: Hollywood royalty, European aristocracy, the grande dames of high society, captains of industry, media moguls, statesmen and stars of every sort. Though upholding the glamorous image of wealth, power, talent and beauty, he saw himself as a journalist whose duty it was to inform, and this led him to develop the environmental portrait — photographs of his subjects at home, at work, at play and mingling with each other. This type of portrait has influenced a generation of photojournalists whose work can be seen in today's lifestyle magazines. This volume shows Aarons photographs of the international elite in their exclusive playgrounds during the jet-set decades of the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

Jones Beach Jones Beach

Beginning in the early 1970s, against the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean, Joseph Szabo started capturing the melting pot of humanity on Jones Beach, one of the America's busiest beaches with more than six million visitors a year. Among the sea of bodies on Jones Beach, Szabo's camera isolates both rare moments of introspection and unashamed exuberance. Images of tanned muscle men, a catwalk display of beach wear, heavily oiled skin, masses of sprayed hair, and shy adolescents reluctantly in swimwear all reveal the dynamics of the beach. These photographs show the city and all its different tribes of people displaced to the coast for the day. Divisions and class and race boundaries are temporarily forgotten along with inhibitions about body size and shape. With no agenda, the near perfect and the flawed are all documented with the same respect and tenderness in these vital photographs taken over the last 35 years.

Timeless Elegance: The Houses of David Easton Timeless Elegance: The Houses of David Easton
Автор: Жанр: Abrams Издательство: Abrams Год: 2010 Страниц: 240 Дата загрузки: 23 февраля 2012
Timeless Elegance is a rare insight into the work of one of America's pre-eminent designers, David Easton, a master of both interior design and architecture. The versatility of his talent is displayed with examples of his work that range from a forty-five-room Georgian style house in Charlottesville, Virginia, to a Mediterranean stucco house in Mexico to a modern house in Aspen, Colorado. For Easton, all aspects of a house are simultaneously executed — the windows and curtain treatments are designed in tandem. Because Easton is the architect, interior decorator, furniture maker, and landscape designer, he can talk the reader through the importance of the seamless integration of the house, the decor, and the garden to create a sense of order and calm. This book charts the evolution of various projects, giving each property its own chapter. Black and white penciled drawings alongside museum quality watercolours by Easton's partner, Jimmy Steinmeyer, and stunning photographs of the finished interiors will be featured throughout. The text will be written by Annette Tappert, author of The Power of Style and former contributing editor to Architectural Digest. Design is by Doug Turshen, the designer of Bunny Williams' An Affair with a House and Point of View and Alessandra Branca's New Classic Interiors.

Lee Alexander McQueen (1969-2010), whose design combined visionary aesthetics, emotional power, and extraordinary craft, was known for staging provocative shows that were as much performances as venues to display his couture creations. Charged with energy, informed by history and culture, and filled with fresh concepts, McQueen's shows have become legends not only of fashion but also of art. Anne Deniau was the only photographer allowed backstage by McQueen for 13 years, beginning in September 1997 and ending with the final show in March 2010. She captured McQueen working with his close circle of collaborators — including designer Sarah Burton, milliner Philip Treacy, jewelry designer Shaun Leane, and model Kate Moss — to create his meticulously produced spectacles. Her book offers an inspiring homage, through the art of photography, to the work of a great artist.
